Aerojet Ordnance Tennessee Delivers 7 Millionth M67 Hand Grenade Body
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. — Aerojet Rocketdyne, a subsidiary of Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings Inc., announced in a June 12 release that its specialty metals facility, Aerojet Ordnance Tennessee Inc. (AOT), recently passed a major production milestone when it delivered its 7 millionth M67 hand grenade body assembly to its customer, Day & Zimmerman, the company that completes final assembly of the grenades and delivers them to the U.S. Army. The grenades also are used by the U.S. Marine Corps.
AOT has been the sole supplier of M67 hand grenade body assemblies to the governments of the United States and Canada since 2001.
“We take great pride in providing our warfighters with affordable and reliable munitions and specialty metal components to help protect our nation and its allies,” said Eileen Drake, chief executive officer and president of Aerojet Rocketdyne. “We are thankful for the trust that Day & Zimmerman, and the U.S. Army, who is the ultimate end user of this product, have placed in us to provide these components.”
The M67 hand grenade is used to supplement small arms fire against enemies in close combat. The 2.5-inch diameter steel sphere contains 6.5 ounces of high explosives and is fitted with a fuse that initiates the explosive charge. AOT produces the M67 hand grenade body assemblies at its facility located in Jonesborough.
“Passing this significant production milestone would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the men and women who make up the AOT team,” said Wendell Christian, general manager of AOT. “We look forward to supporting this important program for many years to come.”
