ARLINGTON, Va. — Naval Air Systems Command has awarded a contract to Insitu Inc. to provide ScanEagle unmanned aerial systems to the Philippine armed forces.
According to the Aug. 15 Foreign Military Sales contract announcement, Insitu will provide “six ScanEagle unmanned aircraft systems, related support equipment, training, site activation, technical services, and data” to the Philippines. The contract is valued at $7.4 million and work is expected to be completed in July 2019.
The Philippines has been combatting insurgencies from Islamic guerrillas in the southern inlands of its archipelago with the assistance of U.S. forces, including P-3 surveillance aircraft. The ScanEagles would give the Philippines armed forces an organic surveillance capability.
