The Netherlands Approved for Mk54 Lightweight Torpedoes
WASHINGTON — The State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Netherlands of 106 Mk54 lightweight torpedo conversion kits for an estimated cost of $169 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a July 31 release.
The Netherlands request to buy the conversion kits also included torpedo containers, recoverable exercise torpedoes with containers; fuel tanks; air-launch accessories for rotary wing aircraft; torpedo launcher interface cabinets; ground handling equipment; torpedo spare parts; training; publications; support and test equipment; U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support.
The Royal Netherlands Navy intends to upgrade its current Mk46 torpedoes to the Mk54 with the purchase of these kits.
The principal contractor will be Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
