ARLINGTON, Va. — Bell Helicopter Textron has been awarded a $510 million contract for AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters for the Marine Corps.
Naval Air System Command contract modification noted in an Aug. 23 Defense Department release calls for the manufacture and delivery of 29 Lot 15 AH-1Zs. In addition, the contract also calls for long-lead material and components for seven Lot 16 AH-1Zs.
The work is expected to be completed by February 2021.
The AH-1Z is replacing the AH-1W in Marine light-attack helicopter squadrons (HMLAs). The seven active-component and two Reserve-component HMLA squadrons operate a combination of UH-1Y Venom and AH-1W or AH-1Z helicopters.
